Brow Lift Plastic Surgeon
As we age, the brows can lose their ideal position and youthful arch. Drooping brows can create deep wrinkles in the forehead and cause the eyes to look tired or sad. Dr. Spence is a highly distinguished plastic surgeon who offers eyes & brows procedures surgery to patients in Raleigh. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can address drooping or ptotic brows caused by aging. Not only is the brow restored to a more youthful position, but this procedure also creates a more awake appearance within the eyes and softens wrinkles in the forehead. Although a brow lift involves the release of muscles across the forehead and between the eyes, Dr. Spence is careful not to relax all of the muscles so that the forehead is able to retain natural expression.
Dr. Spence offers a variety of brow lift surgeries, depending on the extent of wrinkles, amount of brow descent and other factors unique to each patient. In our state-of-the-art plastic surgery practice, we offer temporal brow lift, coronal brow lift as well as the popular endoscopic brow lift. Regardless of which procedure you choose, you can trust that Dr. Spence will use dedicated techniques to create the most attractive results while minimizing downtime and scarring
Endoscopic – Minimally Invasive Brow Lift
At Forever Faces Plastic Surgery, we are pleased to offer the endoscopic brow lift, a highly favorable approach for patients who need a subtle elevation of the brows. It the most minimally invasive brow lift approach available with much less trauma to the scalp compared to traditional brow lift techniques. It involves just a few small incisions that are well hidden just behind the hairline. During an endoscopic brow lift, a surgical camera is used to guide Dr. Spence as he targets the precise muscles and attachments that will gently elevate and reposition the brows. An endoscopic brow lift takes about 1 to 2 hours to perform and can be done as an outpatient procedure.
Patients gain the following advantages by choosing this approach:
- Less visible scarring
- Reduced risk for permanent scalp numbness
- Quicker recovery, Less downtime
Dr. Spence carries remarkable success using the endoscopic brow lift technique, creating effective results with a better surgical and recovery experience for his patients. It is important to realize that a brow lift is commonly performed in conjunction with an eyelid lift or blepharoplasty. A lower facelift can also be included for patients who desire a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Brow Lift FAQ
Will a brow lift eliminate the fatigued and angry look people tell me I have?
Yes, you will look more alert and positive with a brow lift. Low-set brows tend to make a person appear angry and tired.
I saw a TV show where a brow lift was performed by cutting across the scalp. Is it as scary as it looked?
That is only one type of procedure. It is called an open or coronal brow lift. I prefer the temporal or endoscopic brow lift. This procedure uses shorter incisions and maintains a greater chance of preserving sensation to the scalp.
I do not want to look startled, but I do want a brow lift.
Aging causes the outside edge of the eyebrow to descend more than the medial area toward the center of the face. Raised too high, the brow can cause you to look startled. Dr. Spence avoids raising the medial brow too high by elevating the lateral two-thirds of the brows. The result is a gentle, elegant arch.
I'm afraid my receding hairline will show the scar if I get a brow lift. Can you hide the scar?
Dr. Spence can hide the brow lift scar by performing the procedure through an upper eyelid incision. The scar will be hidden in the crease of the upper eyelid which is a perfection solution for those with a receding hairline.
Deep creases across my forehead along with low brows make me feel old. I am male; can I get a brow lift?
Yes. Men who have light complexions and deep lines in their foreheads can benefit from a brow lift performed using the creases. In this way Dr. Spence avoids excessive lengthening of the forehead and the scar is hidden in a crease.
I would like a brow lift; however, I do not want surgery. Can it be done?
Yes. Dr. Spence can minimize the signs of aging around your brows without surgery. Laser resurfacing along with BOTOX® Cosmetic will do the job. Injectable fillers like as Restylane®, JUVÉDERM®, RADIESSE® or Sculptra®, can also be used to produce positive results.
How long will it take to recover from a brow lift?
Usually it only takes a week to recover from brow lift surgery.
Does every patient who has brow lift surgery need to have eyelid surgery as well?
Not at all; if there is no excess upper eyelid skin and you have low-set brows or asymmetric brows, excellent results can be achieved with only a brow lift procedure.
I have deep wrinkles between my brows. Will a brow lift help?
The lines between the brows can be significantly minimized by releasing the muscles causing the wrinkles. Dr. Spence can perform this during the brow lift procedure.
Can I eliminate the deep lines across my forehead without getting a brow lift?
Forehead wrinkles respond quite well to BOTOX Cosmetic or Dysport® treatments. These are temporary solutions lasting 3 to 4 months.
When is a full incision across the scalp used for a brow lift?
This procedure is called a coronal brow lift. Although it has been the most frequently used procedure and still is by many surgeons, to produce the most natural looking results Dr. Spence reserves this particular brow lift for those with a short forehead and deep forehead lines.
At what age are dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM or Restylane appropriate?
Fillers such as these are used when then need arises. There is not a specific age one must attain before they can be used. Forever Faces Plastic Surgery has had very young patients use fillers to enhance facial features. Most common uses are for lips, treating facial and acne scars, and minimizing loss of volume in the cheeks. The results of facial plastic surgery are also enhanced with the use of dermal fillers.
What is the best dermal filler?
We have vast experience with eight different types of dermal fillers at Forever Faces Plastic Surgery. We consider a few factors in determining which filler will be right for you:
- Area being treated
- Skin type
- How long you want the benefits to last
- Aesthetic goals
There are advantages with each filler; a combination sometimes provides the best results. As an example, Restylane may be used to enhance lips while JUVÉDERM is used to correct hollows beneath the eyes. Volume to the cheeks may be restored by using RADIESSE.
My recent weight lost left my face looking old even though my skin is tight. Do I need dermal fillers or a facelift?
Loss of volume affects many weight-loss patients leaving them with an aged appearance; however, it may not be necessary to do a facelift. Fat can be harvested from other areas of the body through liposuction and injected into the areas that need volume. RADIESSE or Sculptra fillers can be injected as well for alternative options.
How does my body eliminate dermal fillers?
We use biocompatible and biodegradable fillers in our Raleigh med spa. Sculptra, Restylane and JUVÉDERM are injectable dermal fillers that can be broken down and naturally eliminated by the body's natural cleansing processes.
Can I have an allergic reaction to Sculptra?
It is highly unlikely that you will have an allergic reaction to Sculptra. For years surgical sutures have used the same composition of materials as found in Sculptra. Side-effects may include miniscule bumps beneath the skin which can be felt but not seen.
Do certain scars preclude the use of Sculptra?
The manufacturers of Sculptra Aesthetic do not recommend using this product on patients who have a tendency to form thick, raised, pigmented scars. These are called hypertrophic scars.
Do dermal fillers show up on X-rays?
RADIESSE has calcium as part of its composition and as such is most likely to show up on X-rays.
Do I need to take precautions to prepare for my dermal filler?
Bruising can occur with the use of dermal fillers so we do advise some precautions to our patients at Forever Faces Plastic Surgery. Even though the bruising is not harmful in order to decrease the risk we advise:
- Topical Arnica
- Ice compresses
- Meticulous injection technique
- Local anesthetics combined with epinephrine
We also recommend halting all blood-thinning agents at least five days before your injection, however, be sure to speak with your physician before you stop medication.
How long does JUVÉDERM last?
Our experience with hyaluronic acid fillers such as JUVÉDERM shows that they last between six to eight months. The longevity of the filler depends on a few factors. Different patients have differing results. The location of the injected area is also a factor. Areas of the face that are not as mobile tend to have longer lasting results.
